Metal Rose

Book by: Jessie L Watt
The story begins in the year 1990 and covers a period of around 30 years. It is therefore a little futuristic. It explores the meaning of the word "different" as it applies to human beings. Rose Anderson is a very rare individual, with an unusual genetic condition. She is born in Shetland and is frequently ill as a child and is diagnosed as infertile.

Always different from her peer group, Rose relates easily to the rest of the animal kingdom...an otter...sheep...cats...even microbes have a different effect on her. She develops a determination to succeed and becomes an expert Virologist. Driven by a need to find other rare individuals like herself, she embarks on a mission to find a biologically compatible mate that takes her far a field - to Australia & America.

In the first decade of the new Millennium, her expertise in Virology is in demand during escalating Bio-warfare. A deadly virus wipes out a large proportion of the human race, leaving only pockets of individuals who have natural immunity. Most of these are minority groups e.g. those like Rose with certain types of Chromosome Rearrangement, Black minorities and Gay people.
