Child Book Writing Overview |
 |
 |
| |
One of the best tips anyone can give on child
book writing is to read, read and
read. It may be a few years since you picked up a picture
book, but look over as many childrens books as you possibly
can (ideally the more successful ones such as Harry
Potter) and analyse them. You will soon see that they
share common ingredients:
Very Well Defined Characters: What are the best characters
in a childs book? What common traits or features do
good villains have? What do good heroes or heroines
have in common. Often you will be able to spot similar
features or themes such as compassion and work them
into your story in order to make it more effective and
compelling for the child who reads it.
Very Clear Plot: When writing a book for a child what
tips can you pick up for the plot? Do successful books
start with a bang or are they slow burners? Pacing is
very important in all books, and the pacing has to match
the story type and – most importantly –
the reader.
These are just two of the many important features you
should be researching for child
book writing.
Then of course, you need to bring it all together. You
may have all the ideas for the story, but little notion
of how to structure it. Alternatively, you may have
just arrived at the dreaded ‘writers block.’
Our novel writing software can help all types of writer
– providing you with a whole armoury of tools
to get you started, through the middle and across the
finishing line. There are note taking features to facilitate
free-flowing idea generation; prompts for plot and character
features which may start the creative juices flowing
again; tuition at every stage relevant to the step you
are currently working on.
Another way in which our novel writing software can
help with your child book or novel writing is to allow
back-tracking to change parts of the story or characters.
Not only does this help you change the story as you
go, but it also means you have a record of the notes.
So you can make a change to a character for a particular
stage of the story and then check back to ensure that
their personality and appearance remain constant throughout
the story line. When writing, it is easy to go off track,
so this type of feature is certainly a time saving device
– and that is usually what we need as much as
anything else.

Information about NewNovelist:
|
|
Creative writing and learning how to write a novel can
be exceptionally hard. First, you have to learn the
basics, then you have to practice….and practice…and
practice. And you also have to research what makes a
successful novel. The vast majority of novels adopt
a basic formula, and we incorporate these within NewNovelist.
Whilst throughout these additional information pages
we have provided tips and “how-to” advice,
the real gold dust is in our software program (available
on CD or to download). It is based on tuition from the
leading university Creative Writing course in England
(University of East Anglia), and uses templates to provide
you with the structure you might otherwise spend years
researching. These templates can teach you the basics
to writing all different types of novel: crime, mystery,
detective, fantasy, childrens, thrillers, military and
many many more. In short, it provides you with a virtual
tutor.
In addition to the template structure, there is context
sensitive help available – advising you on timing,
tone and beat – and scores of examples drawn from
modern and classical literature. For beginners this
will be a revelation. For more experienced writers it
provides a welcome refresher.
Whatever your standard of writing, and whatever your
