Well, if we had the exact formula it would be simply
priceless! However, what is generally accepted is that
there are some basic elements that every novel should
possess. And whilst every writer will have their own
way of going about things, there are some essential
activities that all successful writers refer to again

So to start off the debate on how
to write a best selling novel, the primary step is quite a simple one – note
taking. The key to driving a best-selling novel will
be the quality, lucidity, and quantity of your ideas.
Unless you are gifted with a photographic memory and
an endless supply of new ideas, you will be stuck with
the rest of us humans – who have flashes of inspiration
interspersed with prolonged periods of angst. And also,
the ideas that we have can never all be captured in
a single story, and the characters that we dream up
will need to have different worlds created for them
in books you might start working on in 3 years time.
Once you have the notes taken, you can build on them
– layering detail as it occurs to you. If you
