How to write a romance novel – tips on writing |

As one of the most popular genres within fiction, romance
novels often provide the inspiration
for many people to follow their dreams of writing and
begin the creative process. For anyone new to writing
and indeed new to this particular niche it is advisable
to learn the key components of what makes a successful
work and how
to write a romance novel.
The secret to getting to first base is adhering to structure
and form. Whilst the romantic notions essential to this
genre are important, the less glamorous elements provide
the frame upon which you can stretch the canvas of your
romance
novel.
Consider structure. There has to be a beginning, a middle
and an end. Obvious. But there also needs to be character
transformation. There needs to be a tempo to the story
– enough to get the heart racing, but also opportunities
for the reader to get their breath back. Generally readers
need to be comforted that the story is proceeding along
reasonably conventional lines, so that they can let
their imagination run free over the characters themselves
and some of the intimate moments. If you are new to

Characters. Some might say this factor is of the highest
importance when discussing how
to write a romance novel. Who can
forget the dashing Mr Darcy or the star crossed lovers
Romeo and Juliet with their determination not to submit
to their parent’s rules. It is the colour of the
character that might be considered more important than
their depth. But there is always a back story that needs
to be slowly released, that goes some way to explaining
behavioural oddities.
Then with these points in mind we can now move onto
the features more specific to the genre, rather than
novel writing
in general, which can spice up your writing (our software
program can help you with all of
this).
Flirting – a brief exchange, a chance meeting,
the introduction of the love interest, however this
is done it adds real excitement to your work. Some witty
banter or choice words can set up later scenes and keep
the reader guessing as to later developments.
Falling in love – when, where and why. Is it love
at first sight or does this develop – how so.
There are various ways this can happen but one of the
most important points to note on how
to write a romance novel is this
development should be a play on the readers’ emotions
and in a manner that they can relate to (i.e imagine
themselves in a similar situation).
Within all the steps for romance
writing, it is important that notes
are made on various key story events, characters and
developed and that your creative ideas for scenes and
situations are noted down and not lost. This amongst
others, is one of the prime areas where NewNovelist
Novel writing
software can help.
